My name is Joe and my wife’s name is Cathy and we’re parents of a lovely daughter who has autism and is non-verbal; Angelina was born in 1988. By all accounts and as much as we love her and do everything possible to give her the best possible quality of life, the both of us are getting older and it’s getting harder.
Our goal
Is to share our experiences with you; whether you’re young or older, new at this or a seasoned caretaker, so you can learn what we do and simultaneously we can learn from you as well.
- What drives us to make their lives better?
- What outside programs are available for them?
- What can we do personally and utilize outside professional help for them to improve their quality of life?
- Who are the experts?
There are so many questions and sometimes not enough answers.
When you think you’re alone and there’s nobody out there, trust me when I say to you that you’re not alone. Did a family member or friend ever say to you I know exactly what you’re going through? Sometimes my answer would be; no, you don’t or let’s talk when you walk a lifetime in our shoes. We are not experts with your special-needs person; but we’re experts with our daughter. I always say that you can put a hundred special-needs people in a room and every single one will have their own unique qualities and behaviors. We laugh and we cry, we get mad and then we get over it, sometimes we blame ourselves and then realize that’s non-productive and we move on and we move on for them. We are not perfect in this otherwise not so perfect world but we try our best.
Why this Blog?
All this and so many other reasons are why we have this blog. Our goal is simple, to have community of shared thoughts, ideas and bring together everyone so you know you’re not alone. If only we can visit the minds of our special people for a brief moment only to learn what we would find. Would it be peaceful? Would it be chaos? Would it be a wonderful world.
